How to Prevent Gel Polish Flooding
Gel polish flooding happens when product touches the skin or sits too wet near the cuticle line.
- Prep: push back and clean the cuticle area so you have a clear pocket to work in.
- Less product: wipe one side of the brush — don’t overload.
- Placement: apply 1mm away from the cuticle, then gently guide it closer.
- Thin layers: thick, wet layers will run and flood.
- Flash cure: 5–10 seconds if the product is self-levelling or you’re working slow.
- Finger position: keep the finger slightly down (free edge lower) so product doesn’t slide into the cuticle.
- Clean edges: perfect the cuticle line with a detail brush before curing.
- Viscosity: runny products + warm room = more flooding.
If gel polish flooding keeps happening, focus on thinner layers and clean cuticle control before curing.
